Each year our kids does a school wide science fair. You have to create a project although you don't have to participate in the fair. We usually participate because it gives them a chance to love science and to get excited about what others learned in science. We don't usually push them to do anything to crazy because the point is to love science not to have the parents do the project. Here is what they all did.
Clara- Mix and Match
Clara's Project was on mixing together kitchen ingredients to see what would happen. She mixed oil, water, syrup and vinegar. It was so fun to watch her reactions when the syrup sank and the oil floated, she did not expect that. We didn't really care about the reasons why they separated but the excitement that they did.
I also have to give a huge thanks to my SIL Kris for the dress. Clara loves it and insisted on wearing in to the fair today.
Joe - Quest for the Lightest Air
Joe did his project on which is lighter cold air or hot air. Dave really helped him to think of ways he could test it himself instead of telling him what to do. He got really excited about his project and was very animated when he explained it to his class and to the judges.
Isaac - First Class Lever
Isaac's project was testing to see if there was a relationship between how heavy the stuff you were lifting with on a lever and how much you could lift. I found it really interesting and I think he learned a lot.
Lily - Project Procrastination
Lily did her project on how long she could put off her science fair project until we freaked out. The funny thing was she actually took data to see what we would do. She got the idea from a friend of mine who posted something similiar on Facebook when her son put off his project to the last minute. I never in a million years thought she'd really do a project like this but she did really well. She got 3rd place in her grade and made a lot of people laugh. I'm really proud of her although I'm not sure how this projects reflects on me.
This is her poster. If you zoom in you can see some of the really silly things she put on. It was easily the most unique project in the school.

Josh and I were laughing our heads off at Lily's poster. I love her graph!
All of the science projects looked neat. I'm impressed by what all of the kids thought up!
And I'm so glad that Clara likes her dress!! Making things long distance is hard because I was just hoping it would fit and that she'd like it. :)
I love it! I think Lily got the idea from her Uncle Kevin. He could put off his projects as long as he could and still have barely enough time to do it. I'm surprised at the graph that it didn't have more times that you asked her about it.
They all were great! I think Isaac should have had the Third Class Lever song playing during the fair (the one Mike wrote). I bet they all learned a lot.
Winnie, I was surprised I didn't bug her more too but Lily tends to procrastinate things and I'm a bit use to it. I did look at the dates though and because we had so many visitors this last month I tended to ask her less when I was busy. I also asked less on weekends when we didn't want to think about school stuff.
Wow! Impressive! I wonderful how many of those kids put off their projects until the last minute - I know for a fact that Lily wasn't the only one - because I was there when Isaac put his off until the last minute. I'll bet there were a lot of parents who laughed at that one. To Lily, Isaac, Joe and Clara - GREAT JOB!! I'm so proud of you!!
