The Thomas family year in revue- 2008

My sister-in-law did a year retrospective of their family for 2008. I thought it was a great idea but I think I got a bit carried away. This has been a great but interesting year for our family.

January
Dave turned 30 on January 19th. We also celebrated our 10th anniversary. We spent a week in San Diego. Dave and I were also both in school at the University of Utah.

We stayed at an awesome bed & breakfast, taught some Mormon Battalion women how to quilt and pretended to be ghosts in one of the countries most haunted homes.

February
We celebrated Joe & Isaac's birthday. Dave and I spent most of this month catching up from being gone for a week and missing school. Dave spent another week in Argentina but luckily he didn't miss anyone's birthday this time.


I got my photo in the University of Utah newspaper, the "Cronnie".

March
Dave came home and told me that Miguel was leaving Utah and wanted us to follow him to Colorado. We decided to do it and started preparing to move. We also celebrated Clara's 3rd birthday.


My final project for my Digital Photography class. I call it the Tree of Life.

April
We celebrated Lily's 9th birthday. She had her first sleep over birthday party with about 8 girls. It was crazy but fun. We finished up our classes and started packing to move.

Isaac was the most awesome Pirate Captain in "The Pirates of the Rainforest". An opera his 1st grade class wrote and performed at the Rose Wagner Theatre. He had several solos and I couldn't have been more proud of him.

May
We also took our first trip to Fort Collins to pick out a home. Then Dave spent two weeks in Colorado. One week in Golden at a conference and one week in Lamar where the Northern sight for Dave's experiment is going to be. It was a lot of Colorado for one month. We had a lot of family and friends who helped us pack and get ready while Dave was gone. Thanks again to all of you, we couldn't have done it without you.


We spent the day at "Day out with Thomas" with Seth and Julie's Family.


We moved from our old cramped apartment to a nice big house in Colorado.

June
We finally arrived at our new home on June 1st. We are still unpacking but I suppose we will still be unpacking when we move in a couple of years.


I spent several days in Las Vegas with a good friend of mine. Dave had felt so bad for leaving me to do a lot of the packing that he thought I should have a break.


2 days after we moved Isaac ran into a pole and needed 11 stitches


I replyed to a post on craigslist and got a free playset. Dave had to take it apart and put it back together and while he was doing it he refigured it. We added another free slide and bought another one used and we now have the coolest playground in the neighborhood.

July
Dave spent an awesome week in Sicily going to an Astro Physics school. We spent a couple weeks in Utah while Dave was in Italy and then a week or so after. We visited friends and Grandmas and Grandpas.

August
We spent most of August unpacking and preparing for the kids to start school. My parents came to visit and totally spoiled the kids. We went to the Denver Zoo and my mom took the younger kids to build a bear. It was fun to show them around Fort Collins.

I fell down the stairs and nearly broke my arm. We have since found that the carpet is very slipping down the stairs is a common occurence.


Grandma and Grandpa Johnson came to visit. They were the first of several visits from family.


The kids start school at Beattie Elementary and Joe finally starts Kindergarten.

September
It was great to have the kids in school, I got a lot more done. Clara was with me for most of the month and then started preschool near the end. Candie and Kevin came to visit. They went to see Sigur Ros at Redrocks. We all had a blast.

October
Dave through me a surprise party for my birthday. I was really bummed because my mom had broken her hand and wasn't able to come and visit. It was a great surprised and we had so much fun. Then Grandma Winnie and Grandpa Stan came to visit right after my birthday. We went up to Rocky Mountain National park and hiked near where a dam had broken 20 years before. There were a lot of boulders for the kids to climb on. It was just wonderful to have them come and visit. My mom finally was able to visit on Halloween for a week.

November
Dave had to give a presentation in Argentina, so we planned a trip to Utah at the same time. The day he left the kids and I took off for Utah. The kids missed a week of school for this vacation. We spent the first week at my parents house in Stansbury Park and then spent the next in Logan coming back to my parents just in time for Thanksgiving.

December
We had quite a bit of snow in December and a few very record breaking cold snaps. As Christmas drew nearer we saw that the weather was going to break for a couple of days and that we would be able to make it to Utah. We quickly packed all our presents and drove to Utah, totally surprising my family. After Christmas we spent a couple days at Dave's parents home and then took the long drive home. Making it back just in time for New Years Eve.
