New week, new challenges

Well, I am still sick. I'm now wondering if we have two things going around because I never had a cough but most of the kids did. Joe also never had a cough but had a bad sore throat and a fever and that is what I have. So I'm wondering if I have strep, we'll have to wait and see if I get better. If I'm not better within a couple of days then I'm going to the doctor for meds.

The kids were suppose to go to music, art and p.e. at there old school for 45 min a day. I wanted to keep them in these activities but it was going to be kind of a pain running them back and forth to school a couple times a day. Luckily I just found out about something better. Our school district has a special group of home schoolers who go to a different school and do: art, music, P.E. and Spanish twice a week. This is awesome for me because 1) they will be getting spanish and 2) they will be gone together for several hours, giving me a chance to get stuff done. They are going to start that this week and I am really excited for them.

School is going really well. Lily wrote a great paper on Marie Curie. It was probably the best paper she's ever written. She's going to type it into the computer and fix a couple of little things, so if anyone wants a copy let me know. Isaac is studying Greece & Greek Mythology. We have started talking about Democracy and constilations as well. He is really enjoying the tales of Heracles. Dave even found an emulator that has the old Return of Heracles game he use to play when he was young. Isaac really likes it but I don't think he likes it as much as Dave does. (meaning Dave has been spending a lot of time playing instead of studying) Joe is learning about North America right now. He is still totally into Geography but we are trying to get him to branch out into other things. Part of that is having him study only one country more indepth. We have been reading about what the people in these countries do for work, play, food, money, etc. It has been fun and I can really see him seeing other things besides the capitals. We did Canada and Mexico last week and will probably move into central and South America this week.

We're still in the process of reorganizing. Even though the living room is finally done I still need to finish the "school room" which is half of the family room. I have a small table I'm going to set up for them to work on as well as two computers for them to do research on. Dave has been really creative and has come up with some pretty crazy ideas to help us with space. I'll have to post pictures when he's done. He has next week off from school so he'll have a little bit of time to get some stuff done. Right now we study at the kitchen table and then move to the living room. This works but with so many kids in such a small proximity it can sometimes get a bit crazy.

Well, that is all for this week. I'm sorry about the lack of pictures. I'll get on that soon I promise. Hope everyone is well.

Becka

P.S. Lily finished Harry Potter 6 and is half way through 7 already. She is so excited for the midnight showing and I am so excited to take her. Can't wait!!!!

I'm so excited about your home school group. That will be a great addition to your studies. It sounds like the kids are doing great! Keep up the good work - and get well!!

You are amazing, Becka! What do you use for your curriculum? I am so excited about that group you found. Utah seems to be behind the times still for homeschooling so I can't find something that cool!
