Rocky Mountain National Park

We live an hour from Rocky Mountain National Park. When Dave's parents came to visit we decided to spend the afternoon up there. We saw several hurds of elk. They call this time of year Elktober, we thought it was a pretty lame name until we saw how much elk really was in the park. The kids and Stan even saw a hurd in Estes Park. This picture was taken while we were driving. We went to a place called the alluvial fan. It was the debree field from a dam break in the early eighties. Boulders spilled out of the canyon and made a fan shape. The kids had a great time playing on the boulders although I might have had a mild heart attack.
In Estes Park (the town right outside the national park) there is a hotel called "The Stanley". Steven King and his wife stayed at this hotel in the early 70's. It is hear that he came up with the idea for "The Shining". They arrived on the last day of the season and were the only guests. They stayed in a room that was supposedly haunted. After his wife went to bed Steven King walked the halls for a long time and then went and had a drink at the bar. The bar tenders name was even Grady. That night he even had a dream that something was chasing his 3 year old son down the halls.

Rocky Mountain National Park sounds like a fun place! Whenever I read about all the fun things you guys do, I wish we lived closer!! Although, Josh and I have already been in Indiana for 5 months, so we really only have 2 1/2 years left. So time is going by fast and soon we'll be back West. :)

Yeah, but I am sure by the time you move west we will be moving east.

I too wish we lived closer to family although we have already have 3 visits from family, so we can't complain.

I like having you at least only one state away and just wish I could look forward to you moving back instead of further away.
Looks like you all had lots of fun, and we are hoping to come visit soon.
